Traveling nurses for the elderly

In my line of work, I see tons of different people every day and some of them are here for business some for pleasure and some are here visiting family or possibly having medical treatments at our local medical facilities.  This week, I've seen a lot of the latter.  I've had two cancer patients receiving treatment, one cancer patient visiting the Reiki doctors out at Cassadaga, a sweet older gentleman who's family was going to be coming in for a visit while he was having a surgery at the end of the month.  My heart really goes out to these people who are not in the comforts of their own home and some of them don't even have family with them.  The one cancer patient was here by herself and definitely needed some assistance.  We tried the best that we could, but we are not trained to assist her and we really shouldn't be doing that.  In those types of instances, it's nice to know that  you can call a traveling nurse who can be of assistance.  I remember, a few years back there was a lady that stayed in the hotel for a good while and she had another room for her nurse.  As time went on, we discovered that the nurse was a traveling nurse who was here to assist her during her treatments. 

Nursing World is a professional organization that has a great directory of Registered Nurses that are available in your area.  It's nice to know that there is a resource out there for some of those people that I can refer to when things like this happen.

Last launch of Shuttle Atlantis

The last launch of Shuttle Atlantis is scheduled to go off tomorrow morning but with heavy rain scheduled for our area, they are saying there is only a 30% chance that it will go. I have to say that the end of the Shuttle Program is a sad day for me and probably a lot of members of Central Florida. I grew up watching the Space Shuttle and remember watching the Challenger explode on TV when I was in 8th grade. Then as I got older, I went to work for the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in the Guest Services Department. My most memorable launch was when several of us from the Guest Services Department went onto KSC property to watch the Shuttle Atlantis from the railroad tracks by the VAB. It was a night launch and as the shuttle lifted off the ground, I will never forget the feeling that I felt when it shook the tracks and lit up the night sky. We could see the gators swimming in the lake and the fish jumping. It was truly an unbelievable experience. Unfortunately, my career at KSCVC ended when I was laid off after 9/11. I still stuck around Central Florida and then came back to to manage the Holiday Inn Kennedy Space Center and was there when Columbia exploded. I guess you could say that I have watched the Shuttle Program through many of it's ups and downs and let me tell you, it never gets old. So, if it goes off tomorrow I will make one final trek across Hwy 46 and over to Titusville to watch the launch from the parking lot of the hospital and then head back with a heavy heart to finish my day at work. So, for all of you... If you are headed to Titusville tomorrow for the last launch of Shuttle Atlantis I invite you to stay at the Holiday Inn Express Orange City and then head over to watch it with me. We may not get as close as the people on the Causeway, but we won't be stuck in 4-6 hour traffic either.

Going on vacation!!

Cool site for traveling mothers

Just found a really cool site for mothers who are traveling with young children. This site can help you book hotel rooms all over the world where you can be sure baby is safe in a baby travel bed. All hotels in their system are certified as baby proof hotels. I am looking at getting our hotel certified because we offer those safe baby cribs as well. Check it out!

Special Discounts at Sea World

Can you believe that I have lived in Florida for 10 years and have never been to Sea World? I know, this is totally crazy!! When my parents come for a visit, it looks like I will be going for the first time. (If not sooner...) You know I can't pass up this awesome deal. I have already been talking about this with business associates and friends and will also be sharing it with my housekeeping staff.

SeaWorld is currently offering a promotion where if you buy a ticket to SeaWorld, you get a ticket to Aquatica or Busch Gardens for FREE!!!!

Sea World is not only a theme but also a habitat for many types of marine animals. Not only do they offer up close animal experiences but they also offer high speed thrills courtesy of roller coasters such as the new Manta ride, which is the only flying roller coaster in the world. Manta offers an amazing 113 feet drop and a top speed of 56 miles per hour. Not only do I want to ride Manta, but I would love to ride Journey To Atlantis which is a watercoaster. Doesn't that sound like so much fun?!?

Plus, they have amazing shows including "Believe" and "Blue Horizons" featuring dolphins and killer whales. My Executive Housekeeper's son loves to go to Sea World and watch the shows. He gets so excited, knows all the words to the songs and always has to have the latest souvenir.

Another thing that I love about Sea World is that they offer rehab to animals such as dolphins and manatees, so that they can be released into the wild. Today, a manatee named ODouls who was found on St. Patricks Day, was released into the wild after being rehabilitated at Sea World Orlando.

I hope I get to go soon because I can't wait to check out Manta and hopefully be able to put up a video of my experience.

All Inclusive Vacations

It's that time of year again when I am starting to think about taking some time off work. When I do that, I typically find myself cruising to the bahamas or laying on a local Florida beach. This year, I'm thinking that I should try something a little different. There are a lot of big things happening this fall, my friend Deb turns 40 and my friend Niki is turning 30. She's wanting to go on a cruise but since her birthday falls on a weekend where 2 other friends are trying to celebrate at the same time it gets a little sticky when trying to figure out what everyone wants and can do. While the cruise option sounds great, some people may not be able to afford to go a cruise but there are always other option available. I am going on a cruise the weekend before so I'm not sure that I will be able to go if that's what they decide to do because I just don't think I can take off two weekends in a row. I like cruises and beach resorts because those types of All inclusive holidays can be very affordable when compared to vacations where you have to pay for all of your food and drink. People in the UK tend to look for these types of All inclusive holidays for the best bargains, however people in the US often do this as well. All inclusive Disney and Las Vegas vacations are always popular.

With Deb's 40th before, we are planning on going to Bar Harbor Maine for some shopping, dining and all around fun. I can't wait to see everyone and I'm sure we will have a great time.
