This afternoon I was reading in our hometown newspaper that there a couple of local women that are accepting donations for used prom dresses to use for students who would not normally be able to afford to go to the prom. In many cities, this is called The Princess Project, The Glass Slipper Project, or something similar. With the way the economy is right now, I think it's great that so many people are stepping up to help out with something that might not sound important to some, but can be a dream come true to those high school juniors and seniors who can't afford a dress. The male students have a little bit of advantage because they only need to come up with enough money to cover the cost of a
tuxedo rental. For less expensive dinner options, groups of students could attend a pre-prom or after prom at the home of a friend. That way there is no need for expensive dinners but they can still have fun. Plus if it's at a friends home, they would probably be chaperoned.
By the way, AfterSix.com also has bridesmaid dresses that can be rented that could also be used for prom.
