Squidoo, is it worth the time and effort?

I first heard about Squidoo a couple of months ago when I was reading blogs from fellow dieters. I remember reading a blog from someone about how she made money from Squidoo, but at the time I didn't know anything about it and as usual I was late for work so I bookmarked the site and decided to come back to it at a later date. Last month, I came across the bookmark and thought that maybe I should look a little deeper.

So what is Squidoo?
SKWID-OO, n. v., adj., addiction:
1) thousands of people creating a handbuilt catalog of the best stuff online.
2) a free and fun way to make your own page and get traffic and online word of mouth and Google juice.
3) a place to find what you're looking for, fast.

After digging in to what Squidoo is and what it can do for me, I decided that I should create my very first lens. I actually finished two of them last week relating to Work At Home Opportunities. When I got finished, I decided that I really liked the concept of Squidoo and being able to put a list of items together in one lens.

Feel free to check out my first two lenses relating to Work At Home Opportunities and Get Paid To Click.

When you make your lenses, you can get paid in a variety of ways. You recommend great stuff from Amazon, eBay, one of hundreds of other commerce partners. Squidoo is free to use, so in order to pay bills like everyone else they run ads on your lenses and then you get 50% of the total royalties. That's pretty good in my opinion. Any time someone stops by your lens and buys a product you recommended or clicks on a Google ad, you get Paid. They keep 45% for the company and send 5% to charity, and the remainder goes to you.

If you invite a friend to make a lens, and his or her account earns its first $15 during a recent pay period, you and he both get a $5 bonus!

Personally, I don't see how you can lose. I just got started, so I will keep you posted on my earnings.

i also recently started on squidoo. i haven't really been working it too much. but i'll check back to see if you have any new feedback.

btw, beautiful site, but the text is too low contrast over the dark background. it is very hard to read. :-)
