Is there a benefit to increasing page rank?

My friend has a website that she uses to promote her branding and website design services and she's getting ready to monetize her website by placing ads for recent customers, local business professionals, etc. I told her that even though she's not worried about making her site visible to the hundreds of thousands of people that may do a google search, that she should still be somewhat interested in increasing her page rank because by doing so, she is increasing the value of her outgoing links to potential clients.

If you are interested in increasing your page rank, I would suggest that you do a couple of different things. Submit your site to http://www.freewebsubmission.com/ by using their free service. Then start using your link on everything that you do online. Contest Entries, Comments on Blogs, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Every time that you do that, you may be increasing your page rank. I've noticed that just by entering contests and leaving comments on blogs that this allows me to keep my page rank. This would fall under the category of SEO or Search Engine Optimization, even on it's smallest scale. If I can do it, you can do it too.

Do you have other tips for improving your page rank? Would love to hear them.
